A Letter to; TEAM ‘UMBR 2018’

Sometime ago there was a seed of an idea to cycle the Liverpool to Leeds Canal, with the aim of raising funds for Martin House and all because of a certain young man called Alex. Three people did just that, getting on their bikes and pedalling 127.5 miles on a mission to ‘give something back’. That was 6 years ago, fast forward to May 2018 and the 3 are now a 100 strong team – and with your help, raising a fantastic £18,800 for Martin House! This is a true testament to how a small group of people can help change the world.

I loved speaking to you all in Burnley and even after a hard day in the saddle, you all had an energy around you that was truly inspiring. It is because of people like you, who care enough about our cause, that we are able to deliver the vital support and care not only to Alex and his family but to over 600 other families across Yorkshire each year – and for this we thank you!

So, from everyone here – a huge congratulations for completing UMBR 2018! We were delighted that you chose to take part and hope that you enjoyed the challenge. Please pass on our thanks to everyone who has kindly donated to your fundraising total. Your sponsorship will enable us to care for very poorly children and young people, and support their families, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

The short breaks accessed by families are very much appreciated, with one family recently commenting “We just had our first stay and my, what a wonderful place Martin House truly is! The feeling of being able to be a couple again is so refreshing, mixed in with a sense of normality. Can’t wait to go back.”

Whilst our team are caring for the poorly child, parents are encouraged to relax, knowing that their child is being well cared for and brothers and sisters can play and have fun. Our gardens have been particularly popular with many of our children in the last few weeks as the weather has been so wonderful, hosting many water fights, team games and barbecues!

From all of us here at the hospice – thank you for your support!

Yours sincerely,
